Marriage and Family Therapist Registered Intern
Denise is a Marriage and Family Therapist registered intern who provides counseling to individuals, couples and families. She has treated adults with severe and chronic mental illness in an outpatient setting and counseled children, adolescents and their families within a full-service pediatric medical facility.
Denise’s clinical focus is on guiding clients to overcome their negative emotions and self-limiting beliefs. Denise has a special interest in treating those who have experienced traumatic life events with Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy. She provides EMDR Therapy to help clients effectively move beyond the disturbing feelings and thoughts that accompany trauma. Denise works in a collaborative manner with those struggling with anxiety, depression, addiction, stress-management and relational issues. For clients undergoing life transitions, Denise facilitates discovery of what it means to live in alignment with one’s own values.
Denise brings her warmth, compassion and sense of humor into the therapy room. Her approach utilizes Cognitive Behavioral, Solution-Focused and Future Directed therapeutic techniques. Denise believes that mindfulness and mindful self-compassion are integral for achieving greater well-being.
Denise received a Master of Science specializing in Marriage and Family Therapy from San Diego State University. She also holds a Master of Public Health from Boston University. Before becoming a counselor, Denise was a clinical researcher developing innovative treatments for cancer and autoimmune disease. In her free time, Denise enjoys being at the beach and taking walks with her husband and four legged son.
