The Family Guidance & Therapy Center in Petaluma is a Certified Non-Public Agency providing educationally-related services for public and private schools. We also offer full school support with Independent Educational Evaluations (IEE) / Psychoeducational Evaluations, Educational Tutoring for dyslexia, ADHD, autism assessments and RDI® Therapy

Independent Educational Evaluations (IEE) / Psychoeducational Evaluations

If you, as the parent, disagree with your child's school district evaluation, you have the legal right to challenge the results and request an IEE. Often, an IEE is paid for by the student’s school district, and the aim is to provide additional expertise and an objective opinion in order to best meet a student’s learning needs.

At the Family Guidance and Therapy Center, our team will provide a comprehensive IEE designed to identify the specific learning needs of your child, and help guide those involved in your child’s education to a plan of action for helping them learn and grow.

Autism Diagnosis/Assessment

Many parents worry when their children seem to be struggling at school, with friends or with at home. Sometimes as parents, we just have a sense that something is that our child is experiencing is different or more challenging.

It may be helpful to seek an evaluation if you notice emotional outbursts, challenges with uncertainty, difficulty with communicating ideas, differences in connecting with others, motivational issues, or hurdles in completing the tasks of childhood.

Re-Evaluations

Even after receiving a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, a re-evaluation may be required for school, insurance, college or benefits. In most cases, this re-evaluation is requested by an insurance company to ensure the diagnosis is up-to-date and consistent with the latest DSM-5 diagnostic criteria.

An insurance company or school can request a re-evaluation take place once every three years for you or your child.
