Get Started with Group Therapy in Petaluma or San Diego
If you believe group therapy could benefit your child or teen, we are here to help. We are committed to fostering growth, resilience, and emotional wellbeing in every child and teen we work with.
Group therapy provides a powerful and supportive environment for children and teens to navigate their emotions, build resilience, and form meaningful connections. At the Family Guidance & Therapy Center, we offer specialized group therapy programs in both Petaluma and San Diego to help young individuals process their challenges in a safe, structured, and nurturing space.
Why Group Therapy?
While individual therapy is highly beneficial, group therapy adds another layer of healing by allowing children and teens to interact with peers who share similar experiences. These sessions foster:
-
A sense of belonging and understanding
-
Peer support and encouragement
-
Healthy communication and social skills
-
New coping strategies through shared experiences
-
Improved self-esteem and emotional resilience
How Group Therapy Works
Each group therapy session is led by one of our experienced therapists, who guide discussions and activities designed to help members develop effective coping strategies. Sessions are conducted in a structured yet flexible manner, ensuring that all participants feel heard, validated, and supported. Our therapists create an open and nonjudgmental space where children and teens can freely express themselves while learning from each other.
Our group therapy sessions provide a confidential and supportive environment where participants can feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings. Each group is intentionally small to ensure a personalized experience and to foster meaningful connections. We take great care in placing children and teens in groups that best fit their needs, which is why all of our groups are considered closed groups—meaning new members do not join after a group has started. However, we are continually forming new groups to accommodate those in need of support.
