The Power of Early Intervention

Research has shown that early developmental evaluations significantly improve long-term outcomes for children with developmental delays or disorders. A study published in Pediatrics found that children who received early intervention based on developmental evaluations demonstrated improved cognitive, social, and behavioral skills compared to those who did not receive early support. Early identification allows for targeted interventions that can help mitigate the effects of developmental delays, promote skill development, and enhance overall functioning as children grow.

Developmental evaluations are comprehensive assessments designed to understand a child’s developmental milestones, cognitive abilities, communication skills, social-emotional functioning, and adaptive behaviors. These evaluations are ideal for children who are not yet in formal schooling or those whose challenges are not primarily academic but instead relate to broader developmental areas. We offer comprehensive developmental evaluations in San Diego, California and Petaluma, California.

The focus of developmental evaluations is on understanding how a child interacts with their environment, processes information, communicates, and manages daily tasks.

At the Family Guidance and Therapy Center, our developmental evaluations assess key areas such as cognitive functioning, language and communication, motor skills, social-emotional development, sensory processing, and adaptive behavior. These evaluations are particularly helpful in identifying developmental delays, behavioral challenges, or neurodevelopmental conditions such as ADHD, sensory processing difficulties, or global developmental delays.

How Developmental Evaluations Work

Parents may seek a developmental evaluation if they notice their child struggling with communication, social interaction, behavior regulation, motor coordination, or independent daily activities. Early identification is essential, as it enables parents and caregivers to provide the necessary interventions and support during critical developmental periods.

We offer developmental evaluation services in San Diego, California and Petaluma, California.
