Frequently Asked Questions

What are your fees?

Please take a look at this page that gives some guidance about our fees. We work really hard to make therapy affordable for each and every family or individual, so please contact us if you need special arrangements.

Do you take my health insurance?

We take the hassle out of using your health insurance by calling to check coverage for you. We also bill your health insurance directly. Licensed marriage and family therapists can also take your health insurance.

We are in network with several insurance companies including: Aetna, Anthem BlueCross, BlueCross/Blueshield (Magellan), Tricare, United Behavioral Health, Cigna, Triwest, Ceridian, Bluecross Blueshield of CA, United HealthCare Magellan and more. We also take most PPO plans.

This list is constantly growing, so if you don't see your insurance please call at 619-600-0683 to verify if you are covered.

If you don’t see your insurance company on the list, but would like to use your insurance to cover counseling, please call us so that we may further assist you.

Insurance accepted: Aetna, Anthem BlueCross, BlueCross/Blueshield (Magellan), Tricare, Cigna, and more.

What time are you open? When can I come in?

The Family Guidance & Therapy Center understands that you have many responsibilities including family, friends, work and school. We try to make every effort to fit therapy into your busy schedule. We offer early morning appointments (7:00 am) to late evenings (8:00 pm) on weekdays. We also offer Saturday and Sunday appointments.

We make every attempt to get you in the very same week that you call. We do not have waitlists for counseling in San Diego.

How long does therapy take?

Therapy sessions are typically 50 minutes.  However, some families and couples benefit from being treated for 75 minutes.

Most people see their therapist one time per week to begin, then gradually decrease sessions, as you begin achieving your goals. This decision is made in consideration of all factors including your goals, financial situation, time, and progress to date.

Most people come to therapy between 6-24 sessions.

How can I pay?

We take cash, check, Visa and Mastercard and Venmo. We try to make payment most convenient to you. We can either collect fees the same day you are in therapy or you can be automatically billed at the end of the month via your credit card.
